Dating Privacy & Safety Tips
Keep personal details private while getting to know someone. Check what you share online and plan meetings you can leave comfortably.
Check Your Profile Photos
Before uploading a photo, check the background as carefully as your face.
- Look for addresses, work badges, license plates, and reflections.
- Crop or blur identifying details, then inspect the edited photo.
- Check who can see the photo before posting it.
Someone who can see a photo may be able to save or copy it. Choose images you are comfortable sharing rather than relying on visibility settings alone.
Choose What Personal Details to Share
You can get to know someone through interests, favorite activities, and the general area where you like to spend time. You do not need to give your home address, exact workplace, or daily route to show interest.
Continue talking through the dating service until you feel comfortable sharing your phone number or personal email.
If someone asks before you are ready: “I'd prefer to keep chatting here for now.” You can stop the conversation if they will not respect that choice.
Handle Unwanted Contact
You do not have to keep replying after you decide to stop talking. If messages contain threats, harassment, or suspected impersonation, these steps can help you organize what to do next:
- Save the relevant information. Keep the messages and account details if you can do so without continuing the exchange.
- Report the account. Use the dating service's reporting tools and include the information relevant to the problem.
- Block further contact. Use the block option rather than continuing to explain your decision.
If you simply want contact to stop, you can block immediately. You do not need to keep an upsetting conversation open to complete every step.
Protect Your Account Access
Keep passwords and sign-in codes to yourself, including when someone offers to help with your account. To check an account notice, open the app or type the website address yourself instead of signing in through a link sent in a conversation.
Plan a Meeting You Can Leave Easily
A photo, video call, or profile badge does not guarantee how someone will behave in person. Keep control of your plans when you decide to meet.
- Choose a public place where other people will be nearby.
- Tell a trusted person where you are going and when you expect to return.
- Arrange your own journey home so you can leave when you want.
You can change your mind before meeting or leave a date early. Agreeing to a plan does not obligate you to stay.
